Chapter III: Contain and Confront

To Truly Live Before You Die

Jake MacCallum

rinse your ears in the saline river

hear the songs of reeds wane into whispers

massage your eyes with leaves of maple

sneak a peek at the stars on high gleam and caper

press your palms into a bed of moss

regain feeling where hitherto lost

bless your tongue with fruits of her garden

taste the sweet illusion of pardon

plunge your nose into a lampshade of smoke

smell the life of game your blade revokes

and for goodness sake, and the sake of all kinds

lead with love

leave all else behind.
