strait:\r\n\r\na swim not known to have been completed by any other deer.\r\n\r\na victory worthy of celebration\r\n\r\ncut short by a transport truck upon arrival.\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\ni\u2019ve thought about this deer often since reading the news,\r\n\r\nwondering why she left home.\r\n\r\nmaybe she was chased by a predator.\r\n\r\nshe runs away from a bobcat\r\n\r\nand takes a stumble into the water.\r\n\r\nengulfed by the current,\r\n\r\nshe is carried to the other side.\r\n\r\nperhaps\r\n\r\none day she notices land across the strait, and\r\n\r\nshe is seized by curiosity.\r\n\r\nshe yearns for an explanation\r\n\r\nand sees the water as a means to an end.\r\n\r\nshe takes the risk to experience the unfamiliar.\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\nwhy she ended up here will never be known.\r\n\r\nall i know is that Death is a professional thief\r\n\r\nwho takes no mercy on his victims.\r\n\r\nignorance blinds me from the truth of mortality.\r\n\r\ni expect the arrival of days i\u2019m not promised,\r\n\r\ntelling myself that i can wait until tomorrow\r\n\r\nto finish this poem,\r\n\r\nto reach out to an old friend,\r\n\r\nto finally adopt my therapist\u2019s advice.\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\nthe deer reminds me\r\n\r\nthat Death acts according to his own terms.\r\n\r\nTime pleads with us to hold tightly,\r\n\r\nto use it so wisely.\r\n\r\nbecause in a life built on uncertainty,\r\n\r\nDeath is all that we are promised.\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\nso it can\u2019t wait until tomorrow\r\n\r\nbecause this current day,\r\n\r\nthis fleeting moment,\r\n\r\ncould be all that i have.\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\ni must act like the deer did\r\n\r\nand resist wading in shallow waters\r\n\r\nby submerging myself into life\r\n\r\nand surrendering to her tumultuous
