Dear Mom today at school
\nthe teachers took us to the playground
\nMrs. Adams didn\u2019t wear her red scarf and
\nI can\u2019t remember where my pen is
\ndo you think I\u2019ll need it?
\nThey said we didn\u2019t have to sit still
\nI was so excited Mom
\nsingle file lines make me bored
\nbut wow the puddles were so big!
\nIt was hard holding hands the whole way
\nMartha had big yellow boots on
\nyou would have been proud
\nmy friend Joey watched all the birds
\nI recited the whole alphabet backwards without blinking
\nthere were blue ones and white ones and
\ngrey ones flying about
\ndo you think I\u2019ll need my pen?
\nMy coat has a hole in the pocket
\nmaybe\u00a0that\u2019s where my pen went
\nMrs. Adams said we\u2019re doing something new today
\nMom do you remember the form you signed?
\nI’m so excited!<\/p>\n
Everybody got these bright blue gummies
\nthey were so colourful like the birds
\noh\u00a0Mom actually Joey had my pen
\nhe grabbed it on the way out he thought it was his
\nand he put it in his pocket and forgot about it
\nbut the playground was so much fun
\nI can\u2019t wait to go back tomorrow.<\/p>\n
The teachers were so nice at the playground,
\neven the ones with clipboards.
\nWe didn\u2019t get to play for too long,
\nbut I had enough time to have fun.
\nThe monkey bars were cool.
\nJoey just sat and did his math homework
\nMartha drew birds in her colouring book,
\nthey looked like grey hills far away.
\nI started to read Green Eggs and Ham.
\nI got through the whole book without stopping;
\nit was easier than I remembered,
\nbut I still used my pen to circle the words I didn\u2019t know.
\nOn the way back we didn\u2019t have to hold hands,
\nand the rain puddles weren\u2019t big enough to jump in.
\nThe new teachers came with us back to school.
\nThey asked me how I was doing and I said I was okay.
\nThe rest of the day was really long Mom,
\nThe teachers gave us more gummies,
\nthey didn\u2019t look as blue this time.
